Our Big Blue Wedding

5/22/2009 5:30:59 PM

I recently came across this article relating to wedding etiquette that I found rather interesting, especially because we were thinking of having a blue wedding theme.

The old saying "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" was mentioned in the article and Ive always wondered what the full meaning behind it was.

I've often heard this saying before but I never actually knew that there was another part to this statement which is "And a sixpence in your shoe".

The first three items make sense – something that honors your past, something that signifies hope and optimism for the future and something that reminds you that you are surrounded by friends and family who you can depend on as you and your spouse create your new life together.

Not surprisingly, placing a sixpence in the shoe was meant to ensure future wealth.

But then there is this blue wedding thing. Why blue? Isn’t red or yellow a cheerier color? In order to fully understand why you, too, might want to go blue, it helps to know a little of the history behind the good-luck-charm hype.

Rather than sadness, the color blue has long stood for modesty, love and fidelity, says Dolgin. Christianity has commonly dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, thereby linking the pigment to purity, a matter of great concern in weddings of the past

Etiquette certainly doesn’t require that you incorporate the color into your attire, but if you’d like to have a little fun with the ritual on your blue wedding day, don’t feel you need be limited. The blue sky’s the limit.

This is a well written article and without stumbling across it I would never have known the full meaning of the old saying.

Tiffany Blue Shade

6/1/2009 2:05:59 AM

If you are considering having a blue wedding color, you have many options. I was looking around for some “blue wedding” inspiration and found so many different shades its hard to choose.

You can choose everything from baby blue to navy, and everything in between. My favorite shade of blue is this Tiffany Blue shade.

Also this Tiffany Blue Wedding color would look stunning on a beach somewhere with pure white sands.

So what is Tiffany Blue?

Tiffany Blue is a specific shade of light blue, very similar to robin’s egg blue. Tiffany Blue is a trademarked color of Tiffany & Co.

In the case of blue weddings, it is most desirable to have accents and favors that resemble the true Tiffany Blue hue as closely as possible. The combination of Tiffany Blue with pearls, white satin, and sterling silver is a very popular wedding trend.

Try a navy blue dress with hot pink shoes and light pink peonies and roses with the ivory material from the wedding dress tied around the bouquets.

Here is also a photo of how you could maybe tie the two colors together.

I came accross this article at thriftyfun which I thought might help out a lot of you that are looking for ideas

Ive been looking around on the net to try and find a range of different blue wedding favors to stick to the blue theme.

There seems to be a lot of online shops out there selling these favors but there is also a whole lot of ideas for creating your own blue wedding favors.

Here is a shop I came accross whic seems to offer quite a few favors online.

www.littlethingsfavors.com

I also came accross this site where it has step by step instructions on how to make a "signature" tiffany blue wedding favor.

Its a very good read if your looking to create your own blue wedding favors.
