10/5/2007 10:44:00 AM
Bariatrics is the study of medicine that specializes in treating
clinical obesity. Successes and the popularity of the surgery has
allowed bariatric medicine to evolve over the past 50 years.
Bariatric surgery has become more popular in the treatment of
clinical obesity since the rise of the overweight/obese individual
due to lack of diet and exercise.
Of the U.S. population, 10 million (5%) people are currently
struggling with obesity or some sort of weight problem. Being
overweight can add unnecessary stress to the body and its internal
organs. Studies show that obesity also increases your risk of heart
disease, sleep apnea, cancer and cholesterol to name a few.

LAP-BAND® surgery is a simple, minimally invasive weight loss procedure that will help reduce these weight related health problems and get the patient back on track to a healthier, happier lifestyle.

Inquiring about weight loss...

Losing weight and being fit is a goal that most people strive for at some point in their lives. Honestly I couldn't tell you of anyone I know that hasn't said at one point in their lives that they want to lose weight or be more fit.
Bad thing is the older you get the harder it is for you to lose weight because your metabolism slows down. Good thing is is that it's a positive goal to strive for and your metabolic rate (i.e. metabolism) can be sped up.
Weight, height, genetics, age, lifestyle are all factors that affect your metabolism. But just follow a few simple steps and I guarantee your metabolism will be back up to speed. For sure don't skip any meals because in doing so the body's natural response is to store existing energy; therefore, it flips on an internal switch telling the body to slow down the metabolic rate.
Drink plenty of water. The kidney's need water to function properly. The liver is the main organ that metabolizes the body's stored fat to energy. It also is the backup for the kidney's when they aren't working properly, and if the kidney's aren't working properly and the liver has to help them out, then the liver has less time to do its job, which is metabolize fat. So if you're doing your job drinking plenty of water, then the kidney's and the liver can do their job, and everyone's happy.
Working out. Simple fact is that muscle metabolizes fat quicker that fat. So work out, tone up and replace those fat stores with lean muscle.
Calorie intake. Your body burns calories according to how active you are. The math isn't hard, the less active you are the less calories you'll need daily. And the more active the more calories.
Ultimately most people like to be healthy, sometimes easier said than done but still possible. If you feel like you've tried all these tips and still no success, maybe weight loss surgery is right for you. Visit South Texas Surgeons.
